Poems by Cynthia H. Lewis

Sleep
Closing my eyes I wait for sleep.
Your body pressed close to me.
Legs intertwined, skin to skin.
Rhythm of two hearts pulling me in.
Most tender love more precious than gold.
Soft warm breath upon my soul.
Lost in us I drift in peace.
Forever I am yours to keep.

The Look

One look took down a wall,
A facade of contentment
So warm, so close,
But no, can't go closer
Wish so much we hadn't touched,
The memory catches me unaware
Pulls me, draws me,
Takes me there

Me As I Am

Have you ever been told you're unique,
About one hundred times a day,
So different from everyone else,
with no desire to change,

Floating in an ocean of faces,
years of crests and waves,
Just one person who could understand,
who could take me as I am?

So many who judge and frown,
for they know what is wrong.
The way you look; The way you speak;
The way you think and believe.

Just one face in the ocean
one voice that does not judge.
Only one person to walk beside me,
who could trust me as I am.
